NANS PROTESTS SUSPENSION OF STUDENT UNIONS IN OYO BASED INSTITUTIONS    Students in higher institutions around Oyo State have demanded the reinstatement of student unions suspended in most of the institutions. They made the demand during what they described as a Democracy Day walk to the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan. The specifically mentioned the University of Ibadan and the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) as some of such institutions. Speaking to journalists, the Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Students, Oyo State Chapter, OLUJUWON MARSHAL, said they were also demanding adequate funding of education in the state.

Students of the Plateau State University on Monday took to the streets in protest over an attack on their institution by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. Our correspondent gathered on Monday that one student was shot while another female student was allegedly raped by the gunmen who invaded the female hostel on Sunday night. It was also learnt that some offices belonging to lecturers were also burgled by the hoodlums and many items carted away. The students, who were angered by the development blocked the major road leading to the institution located at Bokkos Local Government Area and called on government and school management to put an end to the incessant attacks and harassment of students by herdsmen. The Public Relations Officer of the University, John Adams  confirmed the development to our correspondent in Jos on Monday

The Academic Staff Union of Universities is planning a code of conduct for its members that will participate in subsequent elections in Nigeria, the union’s President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, has stated. He said the code will guide its members participation in the November 16 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states and the 2023 general elections. “Before such subsequent elections happen, we must be clear with the rules of engagement with INEC. I am saying that for now, we have not obtained the clearance from our National Executive Council that ASUU can participate. But if it happens that our NEC approves our participation in those (subsequent) elections, the conditions will be well spelt out.  “We will have to give INEC some conditions, it is when we agree on the rules of engagement that we can come back to package and reengineer our code of conduct for our members who will be participating in these elections at our behest,” the ASUU President said.
